Build the small machine-learning models that run on a tiny GPS microchip for dogs.
About the company
The HALO Chip is building an implantable GPS microchip for dogs: small, low-power, and placed by a veterinary team, so owners can find a lost dog. We're a founding-stage team moving fast to build our first hardware and get it in front of customers. We're looking for early teammates who want real ownership, not just a seat on a big team.
About the role
We're looking for a Founding AI/ML Engineer to own the training and development of the small machine-learning models that run directly on our device: one that understands how a dog moves, and one that reads health signals from temperature and activity. You'll work closely with our Head of Development, who owns AI strategy and firmware integration, while you own the hands-on model work: the data, the training, and getting these models small and accurate enough to run on a very constrained, ultra-low-power microcontroller.
What you'll do
- Build the training data pipeline for the models, working with labeled sensor data from bench and real-world testing
- Develop the movement model: classifying gait and activity from motion sensor data
- Develop the health model: reading health signals from temperature and activity data
- Train, shrink and compile models for deployment on tiny embedded hardware
- Work directly with our Head of Development to integrate trained models into firmware and validate them against real power and memory budgets
What we're looking for
- Real experience training and deploying models for constrained hardware (TinyML or embedded ML), not just cloud-scale ML
- Comfortable working with real-world sensor data (motion, temperature) rather than clean benchmark datasets
- Experience with, or fast to pick up, an embedded ML tooling workflow
- Comfortable working directly with the founder and a small founding team
- A startup-stage mindset: you'll help define how training data gets collected and structured, not just consume it
The models you build are how the HALO chip understands a dog's day. Getting them right is what turns location into real insight for owners.
