Founding Embedded Systems Engineer
Write the firmware for a tiny GPS microchip that helps get lost dogs home.

About the company
The HALO Chip is building an implantable GPS microchip for dogs: small, low-power, and placed by a veterinary team, so owners can find a lost dog. We're a founding-stage team moving fast to build our first hardware and get it in front of customers. We're looking for early teammates who want real ownership, not just a seat on a big team.
About the role
We're looking for a Founding Embedded Systems Engineer to help build the firmware that runs on our device: sensor integration, power management, wireless connectivity and over-the-air updates. This is a hands-on, build-it-yourself role. You won't be handed a spec and a corner of a codebase; you'll help define how the whole thing works. It's a great fit for someone early in their career who wants to learn fast and take on real responsibility. New grads and engineers with 0 to 3 years of experience are encouraged to apply. What matters most is curiosity, a strong grasp of embedded fundamentals, and the drive to ship.
What you'll do
- Firmware development for a tiny, low-power, sensor-driven device
- GPS, motion sensor and Bluetooth connectivity integration
- Power optimization on very tight power budgets
- Over-the-air firmware update systems
- Bringing up and debugging hardware prototypes alongside our hardware team
- Working directly with the founder and engineering leadership to shape the product from the ground up
What we're looking for
- Solid foundation in C and C++ and embedded systems fundamentals (interrupts, memory management, real-time constraints)
- Coursework, personal projects, internships or work experience with microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32 or similar)
- Comfort working with hardware: oscilloscopes, debuggers, soldering irons, breadboards
- A builder's mindset: you'd rather prototype and iterate than wait for a perfect spec
- Familiarity with RTOS concepts (such as FreeRTOS)
- Excitement about joining a very early-stage startup and helping shape it
Every dog that gets home starts with firmware that works on a tiny power budget. You'll build the foundation the whole product runs on.
